Portsmouth being situated on the south coast, is a wonderful location to base yourself when exploring the south of England. Just ninety minutes by train to the centre of London and Victoria Court (featured here by Portsmouth Hotels) is just ten minutes walk to the main line railway station at Fratton. Fratton by taking the train you can also explore some of the south's highlights. a day return can take you to Brighton with its Lanes and Royal Pavilion. Between Portsmouth and Brighton you could visit Chichester with its magnificent Cathedral, while the small villages next to Chichester harbour include the Roman villa at Fishbourne, and Bosham where its thought King Harold was laid to rest, but king Canute tried to stop the tide, rather like the stranded motorists on the beach. Other places of interest include Winchester with its Cathedral and great historylinked to King Alfred, (one rag week , students painted foot prints from the statue to the toilets) . This is also an area famous for Jane Austin. Also with regard to cathedrals there is a magnificent Cathedral at Salisbury and also the monuments at Stonehenge. While on the train to Salisbury you will pass through Southampton, very little to observe here except it was the starting place for the ill fated Titanic, while the Pilgrim fathers also set sail from here. The Spitfire also had its roots in Southampton as with many of the cruise liners. Regrettably the replaced the old Ocean Terminal with sheds. This was a favourite place to observe the old mighty liners docking and the great steam crossing the road ready for the passengers. Also passing through Southampton by train you can visit the New Forest and get off at Brockenhurst in the forest itself. A train can take you down to Lymington. Beyond Brockenhurst is Bournemouth. Victoria Court (featured by Portsmouth Hotels) is situated in the centre of Southsea . Southsea is a part of Portsmouth and is regarded as the resort of Portsmouth. While our central location enjoys the advantages of being just 3 minutes far bars, cafes, and restaurants, which is a huge bonus after a day traveling. It is also very convenient if traveling to France or Spain by ferry and the Isle of Wight, all about five minutes away. If on foot we can arrange a taxi.
